Getting the most out of your boiler

Getting the most out of your boiler?

We all like to make sure we are getting exactly what we should be. That’s why it’s not surprising that we get asked a lot about how to get the most out of a home’s boiler so here's here’s a few ways you can check to see if you are getting the most out of your boiler…

As Teesside bathroom experts, we always ask…

Is your home properly insulated?

Even the best boiler and central heating system in the world won’t be able to keep your home warm if your home is leaking out the heat that is working so hard to create. That’s why no matter that boiler you go for or how you are using it, to get the most out of your heat you need to invest in proper insulation.

Around a quarter of the heat that your home loses is through the roof. The good news is that this is one of the easiest ways that you can make an impact with your heat. Many people see insulation as a costly investment but that doesn’t have to be the case. Having said that, we do think that you should view insulation as an investment, one that pays for itself over a long period of time.

Are you making good use of your timer?

Most of us are not lucky enough to be able to work from home, so that means that you don’t need to leave your heating on all day just for when you get home. There is a much easier and cheaper way, and that is by using the built in timer in your boiler.

It’s always a good idea to set your boiler to turn itself on around 20-30 mins before you wake up, that way, when it time to get out of bed, your room will be warm when it really matters as no one wants to get out of bed on those cold winter mornings. The same is true for when you get home, meaning that the best time to turn your heating on is 20-30 mins before you arrive home so that you don’t have to go from it being cold outside to cold inside.

Are you checking your energy tariffs?

We understand that it might be easy to skip this part as many do, but we urge you to find some time to check how your energy tariff is charging you. If you have been with the same energy provider for more that 2-3 years, then you will most likely find that you are paying more than you would be if you were to shop around.

A big reason for this is because providers know that customers are price savvy, and with the rise of comparison sites, it has never been easier for them to know when they can get a better deal so see if you can!
